Initially, it began with a strange gloominess which increased in intensity with the passage of time. I first thought that the gloominess was due to the change of environment and the relative quietness of the place which was soothing but also unsettling after coming from a noisy city like Mumbai. Slowly, my mental troubles grew and I also started to feel the presence of someone in the room. Many times I would turn my head back to see who had entered the room, only to find the place empty. This usually triggered some emotion in our pet, which licked its lips as if anxious, raised its paws and heckles and either looked for a hiding place or threw itself on me as if seeking reassurance.
