                    PREFACE

Who can find a virtuous woman?
               ( Proverbs 31:10)

This book is about a good woman. Her story can make an extraordinary difference in the way we see one another, ourselves, and the huge amount of suffering in the world. It's about the last nine months of her life.

Malathi Karuven Sandhu was born in Kerala, India. Her adult llfe was lived in America where professionally she was an educator, researcher and university administrator.
The author of this book was her intimate partner for a quarter of a century. He affectionately called her "My Most Significant Other." Lettsrs between them during the last nine months of her life when they were separated from each other are included in this book. They give insight into the nature of their relationship and the love they never ceased having for each other.
The story is also about Malathi's relationship with her son and daughter shortly before and during the last nine months of her llfe and a small number of other people, including a couple she met briefly only twice before she lived with for two months during her sickness prior to being admintted to the hospital where she remained the last days of her life...and more.
This is a love story. Despite her suffering and struggle she went to her grave, not in quiet desperation, but with a shout.
"Who can find a virtuous woman?" (Proverbs 31:10?)
With Malatti Karuven Sandhu we have a good woman.

                     My Ave for Malathi
One year ago Malathi you made your transition.
It happened at a time when it seemed like you had
every reason to live.
You wrre vibrant and your life appeared to have been
filled with excitement. Indeed, it ws exemplary.
For your lifestyle was the envy of others who desired,
but were not able to muster the courage to be good to
themselves and their own best friends.
But suddenly and at the appointed time, a time unknown,
certainly not to those closest to you, maybe even to you;
Or, if known to you, you did not tell us, or cculd it have,
been we were not listening, at least not well enough
to discern the truth about your reality?
Like a flower, which you told me that your name means
in your native India, and im due season you faded away.
Your soul took flight three days before you breathless
and soulless body that no longer could contain it, not
even a portion of it, was cremated and the ashes
returned to the earth from which they came.
Yes, for a year since you departed this mortal life,
I woud not,  perhaps, could not, let go of you.
I could not say farewell. I could only grieve and ache.
Now one year later, I say "My Ave for Malathi,"
not in grief but in celebation! "Farewell Malathi,"
until then...until I join you in that eternal realm where
flowers do not die and where souls live forever...I will
continue to say as I rejoice these words that I have spoken

to you many times while we looked into each others eyes
and soul, "I love you." My Ave for my dearest Malathi."

The Ravyn: Riding the Cyclone by Jennifer Sloan by Erin Kelly-Moen

This book has been eight years in the making. It is mostly a jumble of thoughts written down in old spiral notebooks and hidden in the bottom drawer underneath various manuals for software packages and hardware long since turned obsolete.
