This is a book that regardless of having a good idea what you are getting, it is still going to gut you emotionally. As the blurb expresses, this is not a comfortable or light read. It is often painful, raw and disturbing. Your own emotions are going to be tested as you are consumed by heartache, grief, frustration and intense anger. This is a powerful story that is about ugliness, betrayal and cruelty but also about strength, survival and hope. This is only book one of two so prepare for the cliffhanger. I do think that this story would have been better served in a longer format. Novellas are generally quick and light reads and this was neither. This was an intense read that could have used more room to grow and develop. This is my forthright, elective review.

This is a difficult subject matter to read about and in such detail. It was brutally honest and full of the evils we tend to brush under the rug. Of course I know about child abuse but to hear it told from the child’s point of view put it on a whole new level of awareness. This book has a happy ending and shows just how resilient some people can be. I think this is an amazing book. It was difficult to read but impossible for me to put down. Once I started reading it, I just had to find out the ending. Such a powerful book worth reading.
