Bette Meci has painstakingly written about a very heart-wrenching time in her life. Do you like time travel themes? Have you ever thought about going back in time? Bette takes the reader on a journey back to the mid 50's and up until the mid 70's. She and her husband, Peter, were innovative thinkers, both very ahead of their time in 1962. Together, they made a gut-wrenching decision to send their six-year-old son, Dean, to India to go to school and learn to live within the Indian culture.
To Bette's knowledge, and I would agree with her, no one from the USA had ever dreamed of sending their young child to far-off India to study. Bette and Peter were the first couple from the USA to do just that. Meanwhile, Bette sat at home in NYC almost 8000 miles away. The only communication she had with her son was via telephone, a very tricky feat back in the 60's and it was expensive to boot. One can only imagine what Bette and her family went through daily, praying that their son would be safe and be able to adjust to a very foreign way of life.
