Having spent the majority of my life immersed in the automotive world, I share some of my most memorable moments. Laugh, cry and cheer as I take you behind the scenes of dealership service departments, engine and transmission rebuilding companies, tire stores and gas stations also what it takes to be self-employed in automotive. I paint a picture of what working for some of the best, and some of the worst facilities in the automotive industry looks like. Experience a glimpse of my life from when I was a high school automotive student to a master certified technician in today's computer controlled automobiles and then back to the classroom where I currently teach automotive. I suggest how to improve customer trust and retention as well as uncovering dishonesty I have witnessed. Classes of mechanics and technicians are discussed and what the consumer should look for when shopping for auto repair. Fasten your seatbelts!

I remember sitting in my eighth grade classroom being asked which path I would like to take in high school and beyond. My options were regular high school, which I believe was explained to me as a business program, or vocational school. I had no idea what either meant. And I had no idea that I actually had to choose what I wanted to be for the rest of my life at such a young age, or so I felt. After being sheltered in a private “saint” school for the previous eight years, reality hit me hard. Coming from a family of nine, which was the norm in those days, I felt I had resources at home that would help me.
“Dad, what should I be when I grow up?” That was my approach at the time. Tinkering with whatever I could find around the house was a passion of mine as far back as I can remember.
