Oh, the fidgets.
It all started so unexpectedly.
I was sitting crisscross applesauce,
minding my own business, when
BANG! My right leg began to itch,
twitch and pitch. I tried to hold it
still, but that twitch travelled right
up my thigh playing tag with my
hipbone.
WHAM! That leg jerked, jumped
and jammed itself into Velma Sue’s
back. “STOP FIDGETING!” she
yelled.

This story is possibly the sweetest one I’ve reviewed. The reader follows a kid throughout his day while he attempts to manage his twitching and fidgeting, but it just keeps getting more and more out of hand! We see his classmates' reactions, you see his teacher’s reaction and you get to watch the conversation he has with his principal to help him manage it. The illustrations are colorful and engaging. For young kids who are in school with peers that seemingly can’t control themselves, it gives them a new point of view. It gives kids a sweet exposure to what to do and how to react when their friends are getting fidgety, it’s not their fault, and there are ways to try to keep it under some sort of control. It gives a great explanation to what fidget toys are, and that they aren’t like the toys we know and play with, but they help a kid focus. Fidget toys aren’t toys, they’re fidgets. Overall, I highly recommend this book to educate adults and children alike.
Princess Geneveive has a wonderful home, with humans who love her. She and her humans try to talk to each other but Genevierve dosn't speak human and her humans don't speak dog. Genevieve often wishes she had another dog to talk to.
