Sweet and Subtle Lessons
As a teacher, I love stories like this that contain food for thought but do not go overboard with an agenda. There are several environmental issues that are touched upon in the book and would make great discussion starters for youngsters.
Good job!
Heartwarming memories are the catch of the day!
The book is adorably illustrated, with likable characters. Grampa takes Marisa on her fishing trip, where she patiently waits for the fish to bite. After a few comical near misses, Marisa learns that her time with Grampa was more valuable than bringing her trophy home. At first, I thought this was going to be a lesson in patience and perseverance, but turned out to be more of a heart-warming recollection of a special memory with Grampa. Perhaps it was both?
