This film script tells the story of the Book of Dzyan in pre-history; how it was saved for posterity to be discovered by Madame Blavatsky in the 19th century; and how it was re-interpreted in the 21st century.
According to Madame Blavatsky, the Book of Dzyan is the oldest manuscript in the world. She presented it to the modern world in The Secret Doctrine. The wording, translated by Blavatsky from Senzar, was difficult to follow, and so she provided long, detailed explanations. Which were also difficult to follow.
And yet the Book of Dzyan tells a remarkable story, about the birth and evolution of the universe, and of our planet, followed by the evolution of mankind. It states quite clearly that the Big Bang of modern science was just one of a series of Big Bangs. Whatever the age of Dzyan, Blavatsky wrote The Secret Doctrine at the end of the nineteenth century, long before science came up with that theory.
In O Lanoo! I sought to present my own interpretation of the verses of Dzyan in a simple, easy-to-read form, uncluttered by explanations and asides.
Here, I bring together a selection of extracts from O Lanoo! (the original wording of Dzyan would be unintelligible) in a piece of fiction that draws on scenes from Madame Blavatsky's life. The whole is wrapped in a modern fictional story and presented as a film script.

1. PROLOGUE: THE SEA DISAPPEARS:
EXT. LEMURIAN SEASHORE -
500 MILLION YEARS AGO
A young Aboriginal-looking girl lies in a foetal position on the beach, holding a shell to her ear.
The waves lap gently in the distance; gulls cry faintly; but above these background noises we hear the roar of surf that the girl hears in the shell. Suddenly, all noise stops. The sea is motionless and there is total silence. The girl sits up, alarmed. There is an awful sucking sound, and the sea pulls away down the beach, fast. There is the sound of pebbles tumbling over each other as the sea pulls them along. The sea disappears completely, leaving behind, as far as the eye can see, a wasteland of mud littered with weed and floundering fish. There is silence again. The girl screams, drops the shell, and runs up the beach to a cluster of huts. The Aboriginal occupants of the huts, wearing simple but well-made tunics, are standing watching, faces terrified. One of them, an old monk in
long robes, shields his startling green eyes as he stares out to the horizon. He calls out.
VAY
It is time to go. Quickly.
The sea will return, and it will not stop
at the shore, it will cover our houses.
We must flee to the mountains.
We must take the precious scriptures.
The people quickly gather up a few possessions, and Vay looks at a bundle of palm leaves in his hut. They are covered with strange writing. He wraps them carefully in a spare robe and carries them out of his hut without a backward glance at his
religious paraphernalia. The people look at him expectantly and he leads them away from the shore and into the jungle. They follow a well-worn path which climbs steadily all the time, but Vay keeps looking nervously over his shoulder. They reach a small clearing and they stop to catch their breath. It is absolutely silent. No breeze in the trees; no birds singing; no insects. Looking back to the distant horizon, over the wasteland that used to be sea, a cloud of volcanic ash is rising. Already, the sun is partially obscured by the dust. There is a rumbling sound, far, far away. The people look at each other, alarmed. The rumbling gets louder. Birds fly out of the trees, screeching, and head away from the coast. Monkeys start screaming and leap from tree to tree, also heading towards the mountains. The rumble becomes a roar, drowning out all other sounds.
The people look back. There is a white wall rushing towards them. The sea is returning. The people scream, drop their possessions and run away from the approaching disaster. Vay hitches his robes and joins them. He doesn’t drop his bundle of scriptures. The huge wave starts to break and crashes into the huts by the beach. They are swept away and the sea crashes into the jungle, uprooting trees and smashing them against other trees.
