Another Great Mystery
It’s a time in Killian Kendall’s life where things should be looking up. He’s seventeen, soon to be eighteen, and getting ready to graduate from high school. He has lots of plans ahead—college, a job, and maybe a more serious relationship with Asher—but things aren’t going so well…until he’s in an accident, literally rear-ends Shane Novak, private investigator, which leads to a job.
Killian couldn’t ask for anything more interesting than working for Novak Investigations, but pushing paper is sometimes tedious. With some hesitation, Killian finds himself getting involved with his now ex, Asher, when his new love interest is arrested for a horrific murder. With Novak’s consent, Killian becomes a PI in training and is allowed to gather information. While investigating Killian, meets reporter Micah Gerber, who wants to catch Killian’s eye.
Then there’s the return of Jake Sheridan and his aunt, Judy Cassara, who lost their entire family when Killian, Asher, and Jake were in danger. Judy makes an urgent request of Killian, as Jake has changed drastically, and not for the better. Judy also stirs up something in Killian that he has really been trying to avoid—his ‘gifts’. There’s also tension between Killian’s adoptive parents, Adam and Steve, as Steve is excited to buy a historical house (which is haunted) and open a B&B. Within all the chaos, Killian finds one more little surprise. Seth comes back.
All Lost Things is another great mystery from Josh Anterovis. It’s a double-plot with the centuries old mystery of Amalie, and a vicious and gory murder in the present. I got hooked on this series after reading Bleeding Hearts, which introduces Killian Kendall and Seth Connelly, and I don’t know why I didn’t grab this series sooner. The second novel is Reap the Whirlwind and now, with All Lost Things, this mystery series is great and just gets better. I’ve come to the conclusion that what really makes it great is it’s a YA series that addresses the issues of growing up and the various emotions that go along with it. Kilian is really what makes this series work. He’s just a normal young man who loves his family and his friends and wants to help people and do what’s right. He’s not perfect and makes mistakes, and even though he has ‘gifts’, he really doesn’t use them; in fact, he does everything to not even think about them. With the amazing cast of characters the Killian Kendall Mysteries has room for more thrilling and suspenseful installments along with a lot of life lessons for Killian to learn.
Killian Stretched His Wings
"You said your job with Mr. Novak was boring, that you wouldn’t be in danger.”

That sums up this book as well as anything could. It also describes the series so far. Killian doesn’t appreciate just how much danger he is in and, once he does, he keeps investigating anyway.
Killian and Asher are together at the beginning of this book. We get to see the deterioration leading to the breakup. (No spoilers here. The blurb says “ex-boyfriend.” Who else could it be?) By the time Killian is ready to move on, we’re ready too.
I enjoyed the expansion of Killian’s psychic powers. Seth continues to visit him and Killian no longer mistakes it for a dream. The dreams continue though, with Killian experiencing the murder from the killer’s viewpoint.
Seth can only point him in the right direction. No psychic solution to the entire crime. So, as usual, there is danger and destruction while Killian figures it out.
A Home Run Again
I’m amazing myself by wanting to read one book after another in the Killian Kendall Mysteries. I find that once you’re pulled into the life of Killian, you get to meet a fascinating young man, and the people surrounding him are every bit as well developed. With All Lost Things, Josh Aterovis has written a home run again! The flow of the separate story threads entwined in to an attention grabbing story and by the end I found myself on readers cloud nine. Josh Aterovis even managed to quiet the shock regarding the ending of Reap The Whirlwind as he continues to evolve the story line of various characters. However, this is once again a story revolving around Killian, told from his point of view, and he has a new mystery to solve.
One of the things that made me breathe a sigh of relief was the fact Killian and Asher took some time apart. They never worked for me as a couple and the doubt-infested thoughts from both sides were getting repetitive. The romance aspect was playing second violin but still contained very intriguing new possibilities which I liked far better. Asher doesn't exit the stage, though, as a new friend of his is accused of murdering his father. From there, Killian is asked to get involved and a new mystery is holding me captivated again.
Even though I'm reading these books consecutively, the mystery doesn't get boring. Original and surprising plots is one of the main ingredients in this series, and now that Killian has become a PI apprentice he takes his interest a serious step further. It also introduces Novak, who is a quiet and serious investigator opposed to Killian's exuberance and eagerness to learn. This gives way for a more professional approach to investigating the leads which kept me on edge the entire time. The question remains; did Caleb, Asher's new friend, murder his father? I searched for clues just as much as Killian or Novak, but Aterovis managed to keep me guessing until that final moment. It is one of the reasons these books become page turners for me! I just have to find out who done it, what the reasons were, and this author gives a highly satisfying conclusion each and every time.
With the smaller but equally intriguing mystery of the ghost Amalie came aunt Judy and she is a character who I loved from the first time she was introduced. A bit known for her nuttiness she is actually a sensitive to things not of this world and the bond she has with Killian only strengthens in this book. They share experiences together and their dialogues are filled with humor. The secondary cast also entails Adam and Steve who are the guardians of Killian. They bring ‘home and hearth’ to Killian's life, along with being wonderful gay role models. The recurring characters give this series warmth, and with each novel I get to know them a little bit better, anchoring themselves in my heart.
All Lost Things is an amazing episode in Killian's life and I gobbled it all up in one take. Killian still has many internal struggles to deal with and I’m leaning towards the fact he has commitment issues as well. Sometimes I wish he wouldn’t doubt everything, but at the same time it is a so very understandable because I know what he has dealt with in the past and present. Killian is just the kind of character you like to see in a happy place only the author gives various hints much more is in store for this young man. The thing is, over the course of three books it has seen to the fact I want to be there, for better or for worse I hope this series will go one for quite a while, with many more stories to be written!
In, All Lost Things, I found mysteries full of twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat as it steamed ahead to a riveting conclusion. I found engaging story lines of the familiar cast of characters which continues with struggles, tension, heartache and love for one another. And an attraction between two very likeable characters that shines bright in its possibilities. This story cemented the series on my keeper shelf!
