The eight basic techniques of the right hand are simple and straight forward, and even their derivatives are not intricate at all: “double” means “two strings”, “triple” means “three strings” and “consecutive” means “several strings”, exactly being what their names suggest. In this connection, I will mainly explicate techniques of the other three tables in this chapter.
As a reminder, below are the definitions of the eight basic techniques:
“Pi”: Pluck the string inward with the thumb;
“Tuo”: Pluck the string outward with the thumb;
“Mo”: Pluck the string inward with the index finger;
“Tiao”: Pluck the string outward with the index finger;
“Gou”: Pluck the string inward with the middle finger;
“Ti”: Pluck the string outward with the middle finger;
“Da”: Pluck the string inward with the ring finger;
“Zhai”: Pluck the string outward with the ring finger.
