Burt Lyle's lips curled into a sinister smile. He looked every inch the killer he was as he sliced the crudely made knife directly across the prison guard's throat and shoved him to the ground to bleed out. “Now that felt good,” he said.
Lyle, powerfully built with beefy arms and a thick neck, quickly wiped the sweat from his forehead, leaving a thin trail of blood. He studied the guard's body for a moment and then shook his head.
A look of surprise froze on the guard's face as he must have realized Lyle had betrayed him. Instead of showering the guard with riches from hidden loot acquired in a past robbery as promised, Lyle killed him instead. You idiot, Lyle thought, never trust a con.
Now, armed with the dead man's handgun and rifle, Lyle looked around the wrecked bus. He expected more armed guards to confront him at any second. Surprisingly, the scene remained calm, but he knew it wouldn't last long.
Evidently, his two companions had made quick work of the remaining guards, but as soon as somebody figured out the prison bus was missing, an all-out manhunt would ensue.
