For the most part, we raise our children according to our own experience of what it takes to live productive lives. However, in a culture that changes as quickly as ours does, many of those experiences have lead to rules and recipes for living that are out of date or no longer applicable in today's world.
The author recounts how his relationship with his parents and others lead him to give away his personal power, thus rendering him largely ineffective in pursuing his dreams. This loss of personal power lead to an equally ineffective battle to recover it. Ultimately he found it necessary to dig deeply within himself to find the true source of the ability to live his life in an authentic and satisfying manner.

In the pages to come you will find an invitation. It’s an invitation to consider a strange and admittedly counter-intuitive possibility: that what we see when we open our eyes in the morning is actually not the world itself but is rather our shared description of the world. Now you would think that we simply use a description of the world to think about and talk to others about it. That’s as our culture’s explanation would have it.
But in this other possibility, we are instead reemerging from sleep to a multi-sensory picture that represents our description of the world. But the world and its description are two very different things. And I have found that this idea compels a reexamination of who and what we are. In my examination of this idea, that we humans focus our attention on a description of the world and not on the world itself, I found myself changing my idea of what is pointed to by the term “human being”. During that shift I came to see that very few of us have ever examined what we mean when we use that term.

A physicist's look at our place in it all...
Beautifully expressed view of consciousness seen through the eyes of M.I.T. physicist Larry Gottleib. If you liked Carlos Castaneda and other explorers in the universe of human understanding, you’ll enjoy Gottleib’s clear (and loving) presentation. He offers a bonding of quantum theory and perception, and through it, meaningful examples of how to relate to this world we seem to both inhabit and create.
The author’s description is not one you have to internalize as your own, and that’s part of the point. Reality, and the world we experience, is different for all of us. Whether or not you believe that you create your own universe, it certainly makes sense to operate in it as if you are continually doing so. The Seer’s Explanation is a guidebook from a man who himself has had excellent teachers and guides, and has taken to heart something from all of them.
Way Beyond...
I have been a friend of Larry's for a long time. That does not mean that I have to like or enjoy his book.
Knowing he is a Physicist, and I am not. I was worried that I wouldn't understand ANY of it.
I was happily mistaken. Some places were deeper than others. But as I read on, it made sense to me.
I have been a seeker all of my life, most of that was without me knowing it. Who knows, maybe I will or I am
becoming a Seer.
The Seer's Explanation
My husband read this book within a couple of days. He asked me to read it because he wanted someone else with which to "bounce" these ideas around. I thought to myself, "Oh dear.....more philosophy". I had had about all the philosophy I could stand in my 20's. By the time I was 30, I decided that anyone that spends that much time asking "why" must have too much time on their hands. However, knowing the author, I figured it wouldn't be too bad. As I started reading, I found myself getting more and more excited about the questions raised and all the possibilities of our realities. I did not want to put the book down. I am no physicist but the author's analogies were excellent in helping this reader to grasp his meaning. Chapter 8 gets a little too technical for me but I catch on again in Chapter 9. If you get a bit lost, just keep reading because the author will bring you up to speed again. Both my husband and I found the ideas contained in this book to be a very exciting way in which to experience our world! It is an AMAZING journey! In fact both of us intend to read it again! EXCELLENT BOOK!!! Thank you Mr. Larry Gottlieb for sharing your incredible insights.
This is a book not meant to be read lightly or quickly. A book to absorb and find sustenance in. I was pleasantly surprised that though I'm not good at physics at all, the author presented his truth in a way I could understand and appreciate. I'm glad I read it and I feel much wiser for doing so.
