The beauty of life is built
on moments of joy. *La Belle Rouge
In the midst of sorrow and pain
I found them, those moments of joy,
golden threads of delight woven
into the subdued tapestry
of suffering and though
I recall the darkness,
punches of colorful joy
my very existence
coalesces around
and my memory flies to
in colorless stretches
beauty of deer feeding in a
wildflower meadow, bright pop of
a red fox scurrying through snow,
celestial blue of my babes'
eyes at first gaze
newborn sounds when
they cuddled in my arms
tiny puppies who fit into
the palms of my hands,
diminutive tongues licking
my chin with abandon
love unspoiled by life
and remnants of war
finding love again when
hope was all but gone,
words long sought filling up
my perfect page, paints on
a canvas understood by
no one but me, walks in
ancient forest, or by
tumultuous ocean,
gravy biscuits served
on my randmother's plate
glimpsing my expression on
grandchildren's faces,
a simple, “I love you”
from lips of those I cherish,
moments spent in
divine communion with Creator
contemplating his omniscience,
omnipotence, and his perfect love
dawn and twilight, peaceful days,
restful nights and the pure
joy of dancing in circles with my dog
