Scouting for a “must be chilly/must be spooky” medieval castle in Prague to use as the background for a musical film based on a Gothic novel is, to quote Gershwin, “nice work if you can get it.” Dancer Abby Fouchet, acting as location scout for film company Headlights Productions has “got” it. She’s also got her soap star fiancé playing wannabe burglar, a psychic with more costumes than a Broadway touring company, assorted film divas and grave-robbers popping up around Kouzlo Noc, Abby’s choice for the atmospherically creepy castle. Then there’s the ghost. Ignatz Jezek, flautist and craftsman (who died in 1792 ) is providing musical accompaniment primarily from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, an opera dear to Jezek’s departed heart. Abby is the only one being entertained by flute music because along with her gifts of second-sight Abby has the unique and often maddening ability to “hear” spirits.

We were in a haunted castle where a dead body had been discovered less than twelve hours ago. A ghostly flautist had been entertaining me since I first arrived at Kouzlo Noc. The clone of my kindergarten enemy was sitting across from me in all her delicate glory. One piano tuner had died less than a week ago and the new one was being romanced by my best friend who would doubtless drop the kid once she returned to Manhattan and her baseball pitching boyfriend. An elderly bookseller who looked like God would if the Deity owned a bookshop was gifting me with books on Masonic symbolism in the hopes I could solve a two-hundred year-plus puzzle revolving around Mozart. Historians were digging through graves hoping to find a magic flute on top of a coffin. The man I loved was keeping our relationship secret out of some misguided knight-in-shining-armor attempt to keep me safe but managing to take time-outs from creating murals and helping bring in dead bodies to sneak in some aerobically-charged kisses. So...a seance to learn the truth about some centuries old baron no one had asked about seemed pretty normal as part of the week's events.

I love Abby Fouchet! She is totally zany and ends up in situations where your not sure if you want to cringe or laugh but your always rooting for her. This book picks up a couple of months after Sweet Dreams. She is no longer working on the soap opera with her boyfriend but is instead location scouting for a friend in Prague! When she sees her boyfriend who's supposed to be on location in Africa in a tree in Prague...after hear mysterious flute playing, lets just say it starts to get interesting! From there it's non stop thrills and cheers, with loads of laughter in between. I mean can you imagine hearing a ghost singing Eric Clapton! Seriously, this book was a much anticipated, absolutely awesome edition to the series. I can't wait to see what happens next. One thing is guaranteed with Abby it's bound to be interesting!
A real gem!
Funny, mysterious and romantic! Abby gets in and out of "trouble" regularly often in laugh out loud moments. Personally I want to be able eat like Abby! This is a perfect read on a any occasion, snowy afternoon, bus, train or sunny afternoon at the beach, it will leave you wanting to know what's next in Abby's adventures!
