Madam President is a humorous look at Washington politics in the year 2020. It begins with the startling news that Martha Feldon has become the first woman to occupy the Oval Office legally. Men have failed miserably (1) to make the world safe for democracy, (2) balance the federal budget, and (3) control crime in the streets.
There are two powerful (male) forces opposed to the new female-dominated government: The President's ex-husband ex-U.S.Senator Buckley Masters (and his underground guerilla organization known as Phoenix Five) and the Truckers Union.
Martha, with the backing of the powerful feminist organizations, initiates a program which she calls "Drastic Measures," designed to end male domination in the U.S. forever.
