A humorous yet profound 'collaboration' between myself, Bright Cloud, a renegade Budhist monk from Bhamo, Burma who enjoys observing the nuns undress in their 'sacred nakedness before God' from his perch in the great Banyan tree; and our Translator, all of whom are given a preface. As I mentioned, though funny and even absurd, their are points if true profundity, the seriousness escaping, as do our writers, from pages one would least expect.
At first an Audio-Book, then a paperback, this is one of my personal favorites, not because of anything tangible . . . Not just because of the absurd situation either, but because it was so enjoyable and liberating to try to bridge east and west, and to watch the characters write themselves.
I hope someday to give copies away -- there are many quotes from obscure, extant mystical texts which may help in a greater understanding between peoples.

Adventure story and spiritual autobigraphy as well as an authentic exposition of a writer's development, encompassing prison, addiction, living the life of a fugitive and mysterious encounters with poetry and grace.
I would sit in the day room in the half-lotus position, my head against the concrete wall, meditating. One day, as I settled into the focus, I was seized by the strangeness of a prisoner finding freedom under such conditions. I realized that a prisoner was merely an objective thing, a number, a fact, while a free man could not be perceived. He was, after all, a nameless traveler.

My belief is that 'The Purpose of Art is to Awaken'. I try to remember this, and reached a new level with this project. I lived near San Carlos, the Apache reservation, and received a poem there....My job is to listen.

Our main character, Hector Martin, nearing sixty, watches the great Gray whale’s ancient migratory patterns, drinking and brooding on an unsatisfactory life, while contemplating his own deep-seated need for a sense of home, leaving his young son’s raising to his sister, a complex and lonely surrogate mother.
