Oh me oh my, what a delightful tale of century-old love with a twist of huckleberry fiction and a foundation of Good Book morality. Larry Kimport's A Small Harvest of Pretty Days is authentically told in the first person voice of Clara, a house-girl who was assaulted, avenged, accused, betrayed, and loved. And all the while, change was happening: the world was becoming smaller, communication wheels were quicker, and trees were being felled.
Kimport not only exquisitely braids one chapter of Clara's life but he satisfies the reader by tying the bow with the rest of the story.

At the Table of Want is a coming-of-age story that is so much more than one young man’s journey into adulthood. Truman’s experiences, thoughts, feelings, and struggles become the reader’s own.
We are more than merely ourselves; we belong to the world and those who live on it, making us who we are. I feel not only that I better know this “kid from New Jersey” at the end of this novel, but I better know myself.
