In 1307 the treasure of the Templars was sent to Scotland. The powerful Sinclair, hereditary guardians of Freemasonry brought the treasure to the New World. Henry Sinclair in 1398 started a colony in what is now Newport Rhode Island. A octagonal structure mirroring those built by Templars from Ireland to the Baltic still stands today. Christopher Columbus married in a branch of the Sinclair family and was given the maps of his new father-in-law, a Templar.
