Have you ever wondered what it would be like to do it all over again, with what you know now? Do you have any regrets? A girl you left behind that you shouldn’t have? A lost love? Did you want to be more social in high school or college? Would you like to had all the experience and knowledge that you have gained over the years when you were young? What would you do? Would you want to become rich and famous? Maybe you would become a philanthropist or save the world from war and hunger. Paul Jefferies is having a mid-life crisis. Paul had never been much of a believer in religion or an afterlife. He makes one huge wish born out of desperation, it is grated, and he dies of a heart attack. Instead of being his ending, it is just the beginning. He wakes up at 13 years old in his bedroom with things are as they were in 1963. He then discovers it is not quite the way he remembered it. Life back the even with his knowledge is not as easy as he had ever imagined it would be!

The Misfits of Channel 10 was inspired by the author’s experiences growing up in the 60’s. Did you have a troubled childhood or a hard time dealing with the changes of adolescence? Were you perpetually on the outside looking in? Did you turn toward Citizen Band or Amateur Radio? Was Lafayette Radio, Heath-kit or Allied Radio (Knight-kit) an important part of your adolescence? Do you ever think back to the days of your youth when life was simpler?
This is a story about loners that yearn to belong and learn to create a common bond with others like themselves as voices over the Citizen Band radio. They want what all of us want, friends, family, understanding, and love. They form a “gang” of a different kind with a pecking order based upon their quality of their voices and sharpness of wit.
Join me for a nostalgic look at the awkwardness of coming of age in the 60’s and not being one of the “in crowd” in “The Misfits of Channel 10.”
Introduction
Did you grow up in the 60’s or 70’s? Did you grow up with Citizen Band Radio or the Lafayette Radio Electronics Corp? Was it a hard, lonely, awkward time for you? This is a coming of age book based upon my experiences of growing up in the 60’s and being the perpetual outsider, the misfit. The is a story of coming of age and the role CB radio and the Lafayette Radio Electronic Corporation played in this metamorphosis.
I grew up in the small town of Syosset, Long Island, New York. I perceived the world of my peers through a 14-1/4” X 7” X 5” box that was my Courier | | | | Writer's Block Vaporized, Creativity Maximized!
Many people have adventures from the past, coming-of-age experiences, narrow escapes, hair-brained adventures with their friends, things that happened when in school or at a specific job, weird family members or friends, strange and unbelievable occurrences, heart rending and passionate love stories. In short, things, which they know, will make a great book or even a best seller! They finally set everything up, so they have the method, the opportunity and the motive and then nothing! They stare at the white sheet of paper or a computer monitor and their heart races, their palms get sweaty and their mouths dry. They feel like a fraud. Things like “Was I just kidding myself? I’m no writer! What was I thinking?” Streak through their heads and then anxiety sets in, and even fear. Then it becomes a delaying action. It isn’t very much fun facing that blank screen. It is similar to a firing squad except that the target is much more up-close and personal, it’s your self-esteem and pride.
I started the outline of this book just before I left for my annual, two-week, writing retreat in Maui. At last year’s retreat, I finished my first novel, “The Misfits of Channel 10.” Although I found that to be a significant achievement at the time, this year I was not satisfied with this amount of productivity. I was convinced that I could boost my creativity to a higher level and stay in the creative state for longer periods. I wanted to be much more prolific.
