SURGICALLY RE-WRITTEN and CONDENSED Feb-May 2013... A MONUMENTAL JOURNEY is an adventure mystery historical fiction novel that follows a young mans journey (with friends) to find Truth, happiness, purpose, and a long lost Norse tribe.
In the early 1470’s fifteen ninety-five foot wooden longboats departed the northern Scottish mainland, a small island in the Pentland Firth, and many of the Southern Orkney Islands to find new lands to raise their families in. The journey was sanctioned by the beloved King Agar and the craftsman/metallurgist Gamelin. The departing clans were desirous of being detached from the rampaging Baaldurian’s. These were a wicked Viking tribe separated from the original Northern Nation by their choice to follow the bloody antediluvian witchcrafts instead of Jesus Christ. An adventure/thriller...
A rusted derelict vessel has run aground in an isolated bay on Isla Socorro. Aboard, a lone man is near death. At a curiously propitious moment Rolf, an Irish wolfhound, discovers the wreck and races back to the Socorro Resort to alert his owners. Concerned, they rush out and rescue the stranger, and nurse him back to health. The good-deed however quickly devolves as they are drawn into far-reaching intrigues more challenging than they could ever imagine. In this fourth and final installment the intrepid crew is taken to the limits of their endurance as they brave a subterranean world filled with dangers and bizarre wonders. When Thurid’s warriors are defeated the crew frees the Grettig family from captivity and all embark together on a vast sea inhabited by incredible creatures.
Weeks later, from evidence on three parchments found in a mysterious wooden box, the crew splits up. Eight of the crew hike into the rugged Eastern Mountains in search of a fabled Lost City, while the others take both Subterranean Exploration Submersibles into the far northern territories to investigate the Himminglaeva Settlement. After a grueling trek through the mountains both parties somehow reunite at the Caldera Vale where, following a cataclysmal event in which one of the SES is destroyed, all are airlifted from the Realm of Ancients and flown up to Tatoosh Island, south of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, to re-board the newly renovated schooner Heimdall.
After a deadly encounter with Mortiken soldiers they set sail north, along the western Canadian coastline, in their relentless quest to find the First Tribe of Rognvald’s to present them with the legendary Tempest Sword and a fortune in blood rubies.

Sixty-seven days after departing Flores Island in Europe’s westernmost waters, the schooner Heimdall and her stalwart crew has finally arrived at the mysterious Isla Socorro in the Revillagigedo Archipelagoes. The discoveries they make are astounding. Anders “the Norse” Vildarsen, a descendant from the original Viking voyage, joins the crew, and together they continue their search for the First Tribe of Rognvald’s. Along the way they resolve a conundrum about Gamelin’s Tempest Sword. They encounter the supreme Mortiken leader, Amalek Baaldur and the witch Krystal Blackeyes. They expose a shocking deception concerning King Agar’s son Magnus and the ancient assembly of Troth, and their on-going struggle against a ruthless enemy continues challenging them beyond their abilities.
Thankfully the weather conditions had been exceedingly complimentary on our crossing, allowing us to navigate tremendous distances swiftly and safely. Not once had we been exposed to the magnetic drought bands ravaging various areas on the planets surface.
The journey had been changing my life in profound ways, and was also demanding from me a mental discipline, and physical fortitude, I never knew I possessed. Forced to put the schooner Heimdall into dry-dock for repairs and modifications, the crew chooses to holiday in Southern Utah so they can rendezvous with the Professor, a brilliant confidant from Rabat. What he shares at the summit stuns the crew and changes their plans. Now, instead of sailing north to Montague Island, four of the crew will travel to a hidden base in Taroudant Morocco for secret training on state-of-the-art vessels. The others will journey into the Anza Borrego and climb Ghost Mountain to verify what GRACE 2 Satellite Surveillance has recently discovered, an entrance into a vast Underground River system. Tearfully, both groups part company to prepare for the greatest challenge of their collective lives, an extraordinary mission into a numinous subterranean realm in search of century’s old Viking civilizations.
