As It Came To Be
With the impassive winter of my eleventh year, drawn out to the last by
ferocious March winds, a great, gray gentleman first came calling; introduced as
distant kin. He was my father’s great uncle and great he was, come to us from far off shores; a long sea voyage undertaken, soon after the world had been
explored.
His frame was large, as his heart was tender, and it seemed our friendship
