| | | Fireflies, Moonlight and All That Jazz An illustration of lyrical expression that caresses the soul.
Consuming Fear
Awakened with a start
by the cold hand of fear
sweat pours from a body
that lays beneath a comforter
that doesn't comfort
Eyes dart back and forth
searching for dangers
or spooks that are
conjured up by
an over-active imagination
The heart races,
caught within the throat,
in a battle between
beating or stopping
as anxiety overtakes
Minutes pass,
a calmness returns,
embarrassment settles upon
the weary soul
until sleep
once again consumes
