This is a fictional story of the Development and Growth of the Coastal Surveillance Forces in the Vietnam War.
This book documents and tells the history of the establishment and growth of the Coastal Surveillance Force, Task Force 71. This grew to Task Forces 115, 116 and 117. My research for this history came from veterans serving in this period and the documentation of the Commander Naval Forces Vietnam Monthly Summaries. These documents did not exist before January 1966, so the early period was dependent on veterans and the author’s personal knowledge. This book is an eye--witness testimony to a tragic incident in the Vietnam War.
Assigned to Swift boats in DaNang, RVN, I arrived in June 1968. PCF-12, the boat to which I was assigned was involved in an incident involving North Vietnamese Helicopters, U.S. Air Force Jets, and U.S. Marines ashore. PCF-19 was sunk with the loss of five crewman. It was blamed on "friendly fire". This book is the real story, of what I believe was "hostile fire", as told by witnesses who were there.
