Description:
The song lyrics of songs by jazz pianist/songwriter Michael Guy is to be followed up by a self-published CD in 2009. These are mostly his lyrics, some of which were published here on AD in August 2007 but a few poems. These arrangements given in large type include full color photos of the related personal and nature themes. Some of the photos show his striking rich collage work in his music CD covers to be published by JzCDz.com in 2008. Enjoy this colorful personal history and lyrical prelude to his CD, including some fine American History story-songs set during major periods of U.S. history.
And although the songs of Michael A. Guy will not publish until 2009, his magical and mysterious heart-song to the beauty of the Tropical Oceans, "August Ocean Overture" is available NOW for sale on Amazon's CreateSpace, Amazon.com and CDbaby; also many digital music download sites (iTunes). Aubade, means "Morning Song" in Spanish I think. Whatever these 3 piano solo pieces were composed just after I returned from NewYorkCity around 1986 and was living in what was then still a small, quiet Southern town, filled with the Sunday morning sounds of distant church bells, and an old town clock that musically chimed variations of a melody every half hour.

Finally in 2010 thanks in part to Obama's stimulus plan, I was able to master and finish producing,my 2nd CD of remarkable piano/keyboard Jazz/New Age compositions. It has been quite a saga since June 17th, 2009, a lot like single-handedly sailing a boat around a musical world. Ask any sailor who's done it. But I am justly proud of the result and it meets my high expectations as a composer and performer even if I would have preferred better pianos and studios at the time. It does sound pretty great...

Recently I've finally published my Piano Sonata #1 to my Storefront. Its mysterious history you can read about below. This is a professional score book made on Finale Allegro notation software. It is a rather difficult (for professional concert pianists) modern, 20th century composition with a Latin-Spanish flavor. I composed it long ago beginning in college and completing it in the mid-80s. It is lovely to listen to: SEE the LINKS below to the free Podcasts of this music.

In 2010 I finally revised and notated my first string quartet based on one of my 1998 jazz pieces; yet the first movement has a decidedly Bartok flavor with a touch of jazzy blues overtones. The long second movement is in 3 different tempos beginning with a Celtic flavor and including two very jazz-like sections of advanced jazz harmony with bluesy overtones. Thus the name: "SQ BLUE" or String Quartet #1!
American Composer/pianist Michael Guy (b. 1954)/b> also composes chamber and symphonic music with a jazz influence. I have a limited supply of early editions of my historical, literary novel with an English music history and nautical ambiance. This was before I made cuts and issued a Second Edition (see my other book page). This one was 254 pages compared to 245 pages for 2nd edition. Also the covers on this early edition were not as brilliant in color since the publisher(Infinity Books)had yet to purchase new printing equipment.
