Jock Stewart is an old-style investigative reporter working for a small-town newspaper named the Star-Gazer. He's at odds with his boss and the mayor about everything, but he manages to deflect both of them with sarcasm and insubordination.
When the mayor's horse, Sea of Fire, is stolen, Jock thinks the entire matter is suspicious, including the fact that the mayor won't talk about it. Quite possibly, Jock's boss, publisher Marcus Cash, is tangled up with the theft; or worse yet, with the murder of Bambi Hill.

This novel, labelled as "fantasy" by the publisher, uses a mix of magical realism and dreams to show Robert adams' "heropath" journey into an unknown mountain land where he must complete a mission left undone by his avatar grandfather. He steps into a world at war and must first learn whom to trust and then how to trust himself.
The book was inspired by the Sun Singer statue at Allerton Park in Monticello, Illinois. While the book uses few real place names, the mountain adventure action is set in Glacier National Park, Montana. |
