Looking for a country to take him in and welcome him as its own in 1997 Latif booked his flight to Dublin, Ireland's Capital city, using another assumed identity he went about destroying Latif Yahia and his Uday connections, surely this time he could be free of Iraq and all the pain that it had brought to him. Having settled into a comfortingly mundane routine Latif now Kaled was beginning to believe that maybe, just maybe this time it would work and he could finally live a quiet and normal life, hope unfortunately was to fade as his past caught up with him, but this time not in the form of the CIA, this time it was a woman and hell hath no fury like this woman scorned. Pandora's box was opened and all that Latif had hoped to leave behind came like a torrent, suddenly the Irish authorities were aware of his presence, with their close ties to America it did not take the CIA long to follow and the game continued... Because of his opposition to the war on Iraq in 2003 and the American's use of Shannon airport, Latif Yahia is still stateless after 16 years of exile in the West.

Since our publication of The Black Hole, we have seen what
opposition is; when you meet someone who has truly experienced dictatorship
it is the opportunity to be thankful for liberty but not to be complacent.
When we met with Dr. Yahia, our first reaction was how fantastic it was
that he could come through these horrors and still be a happy functioning
Human Being.
But to hear of the injustices and humiliations that he has suffered here in
our Democratic countries is humbling, so often we as Western Nations press
upon the world that our way is the right or Only way. Having spoken with
Dr. Yahia and read his works. We at Arcanum feel that each and every one of
us should sit back and take stock of what we think are our freedoms and
rights.
The modern world is full of distractions, problems to keep the mind and
body on the verge of panic, the important question is what are we to be
distracted from?
Our eyes have been opened to the world around us and we hope that in some
small way yours will too.

Ireland had always been a famously welcoming
and friendly place, Latif could remember talking to
Irish doctors, engineers and contractors that came
to work in Iraq, Ireland was a beautifully green
paradise that he wished to one day visit.
After travelling throughout the globe, that day
finally arrived in 1997.
Indeed the Irish were welcoming and hospitable,
but with the extremely close relationship between
Ireland and America, Latif was to be torn between
a love for the Irish people and a dismay at the
injustice he suffered at the hands of the Irish
authorities backed by the
CIA and Washington
About the Author
Dr. Latif Yahia was born in Baghdad Iraq to a wealthy businessman in 1964, he lived a happy uneventful life until 1987 when he re-encountered Uday Saddam Hussein. The two had previously been at the same school together and both had the desire to study engineering and had applied to the same university, but when Latif realised that he would have to spend another 4yrs with Uday he changed to Law, he went on to gain a Doctorate in International Law. Latif was then forced to become the double for Uday, the threats against his family were too great for him to refuse Uday and he spent the next 4yrs being a bullet catcher and did catch a few, he now bears the scars of 11. Since Latif's escape from the Iraqi regime in 1991, he has been imprisoned in a covert CIA prison in Austria, hunted by Iraqi intelligence and head hunted by the New Iraqi government a position he rejected. He has studied psychology and is a sucessful businessman, he now lives in Ireland with his wife, Mother and four children, two of whom are his Niece and Nephew, their mother was killed in Baghdad during shock and awe in 2003, their father, Latif's brother is missing. Having lived in Ireland for the best part of ten years Latif has applied for Irish Naturalisation and has been rejected twice, he remains philosophical and calls himself a citizen of the world but still remains stateless after 16 yrs in the West.

In 1987, Latif Yahia was taken to Saddam's headquarters to meet Uday, Saddam's eldest son, and told that a great honour has been bestowed upon him: that because of the great likeness between them, he had been chosen to be Uday's double. For many Iraquis, it would have been the highlight of their lives, but for Latif, a peace-loving man who did not agree with Saddam's brutal regime, it was not. He refused. Following a week of torture and realising he would be killed if he continued to refuse, Latif was forced to accept the role. After a gruesome training programme during which he was made to watch over thirty films of torture, hours of tapes of Uday, and undertake a final remodelling of his appearance, Latif was deemed ready. But it was only after the final test, a meeting with Saddam himself, that Latif made his first public appearance.
