An Air Force pilot is coerced into a conspiracy to steal a prototype secret missile. He believes he is working undercover and willingly allows the missile to fall into soviet hands. He is doubled-crossed by a turncoat USAF Office of Special Investigation agent who is controlled by a soviet spy. The pilot dies during a test flight in a crash rigged by Russian agents. The actual act of espionage is accidentally witnessed by an old prospector who tells his friend, a high ranking USAF official, and the pilot is branded a traitor.

It was almost dark when they finally stopped. The guard motioned them to sit in the middle of the trail. When they were settled, the VC made themselves comfortable along the edge. They passed out the captured rations among themselves and started eating, offering none to the prisoners. The leader said something, pointing at the Americans, and they all laughed.
“The bastards,” Hefley hissed in a low tone.
“Just relax,” Jeff cautioned. “Conserve your strength. I’ve got a feeling you’ll need it.”
