Mike Smith, a retired L.A Detective and Nancy Smith, a retired member of the FBI and physic, just got married and are off to their honeymoon to the Cayman Islands. Harold Otterman waves at them with a congratulatory gesture as the pull out of the driveway. In terror, Harold sees a strange man in the back window smiling at him with a bloody knife in hand. This stranger has a big black top hat like that worn of the infamous serial killer “Jack the Ripper.” Mike and Nancy do what that can to enjoy their honeymoon. Meanwhile, with the power to travel through time, Jack builds a team of ruthless killers to assist him in maintaining his current immortality. In his travels, he is able to convince, Albert De Salvo, aka “The Boston Stranger”, Aileen Wuornos, aka “Monster” and Peter Kurten, aka “The Dusseldorf Vampire” to join his team to carry on his reign of terror. Upon their return, they have their work cut off for them in stopping Jack from carrying on his work.
Mike travels to Ashland Colorado to get away from the busy city life of working in California. His goal was to freelance as a private investigator and also to reconnect with his aunt, whom his parents forbid him to associate with because she had practiced witchcraft. After stumbling onto a case that Harold Otterman, a retired detective from the Ashland Colorado Police Department, was working on for many years, he meets up with Nancy. His priority in the past years was his work but it was time that he fell in love and started a family. After months of working together, he proposes to Nancy and she accepts his proposal with open arms.
While working on the case, they travel to different periods of time to eliminate Jack and his team and return the books of X back to the rightful owner.
After a victim is close to death, Jack takes out a special dagger and carves an X in their forehead. Sadly, the dagger consumes the soul of Jack’s victim. Mike and Nancy make every effort to stop Jack from consuming any more souls, which will allow him to keep his immortality and not dissolve into ashes.
Jack makes every effort to eliminate Mike and Nancy Smith. During the case, they put a damper on Jack’s plans but he comes back at them with a different approach. Frustration is felt from Mike and his wife in every aspect of the case.
Deliverance is a masterfully written suspense novel. It will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next. Jack and his team are on a mission to obtain souls to keep their own immortality. Mike and Nancy make every effort to protect the lives of innocent people. It’s a continuous battle to preserve humanity and stop souls from being consumed and thrust into outer darkness.

Blurb From Redemption....Grabbing his flashlight, Detective Mike Smith notices a woman slumped over. He shines the light into her eyes and notices that she has no pupils. He immediately notices two apparitions on each side of the X. On one side of the X, there was a woman dressed scantily with her index finger pointed toward the X. Her eyes shines an eerie orange color. She has the expression of horror on her face. The woman on the other side is dressed in clothing similar to that of a Quaker or Puritan. A blinding white light shines from her eyes as she points at the X with an expression of peace. Capturing this astounding sight with his camera, Mike realizes that what he is seeing is a premonition of things to come.
In Redemption, Scott Winfield explores many worlds in order to create such a literary masterpiece. Redemption is a thrilling, mind boggling and unpredictable trip for those readers who want to follow the horror, pursuit and capture of serial killing big names, such as Jack the Ripper and Ted Bundy. The challenge of this work is the chase, taking the readers for a usual ride. The plot is laced with diverse details, mixing modern-day real-world police work with the surreal fictional accounts of the unknown.
