Manny the Marmot is a story about a family that works together. Miguel, their young son, goes off by himself to find a new place to live. He encounters a lot of danger. His parents Manny and Marta are very worried and go to look for Miguel. They tell him the world is not always a friendly place. He needs to tell them where he is going. The story ends happily. The family moves to the new and safer place that Miguel has found. The young marmots all promise to never go anywhere without telling their parents where they are going. Janice Lease lives with her husband Robert, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is a first grade teacher as well as a Registered Nurse. During her 20 years of teaching, she wrote many stories for her students. She published a county magazine for five years and has sold many of her photographs with her photo card business. Jan and Bob have two daughters, six grandchildren and one great grandson. She recently retired from the University Medical Center in Las Vegas as a charge nurse on the cardiac unit. Jan continues to write and has several more books ready for publication.
| |  | | Marigold Little Squirrel in a Cactus Patch
Marigold is an Antelope Ground Squirrel who has just found out that her mother named her after her favorite flower. She leaves her home under the Cactus Patch and searches the surrounding garden for her flower. She meets several interesting desert animals along her way as well as her cousin the Round Tailed Ground Squirrel. After seeing many beautiful flowers, the Marigolds are finally in bloom, and Mother squirrel is able to show Marigold her flower.
"This is the flower that makes me feel the happiest and that's how I felt when I first saw your little face," she tells Marigold. On a winter visit to Daytona Beach in Florida, I walked the beach and was surprised to find Pelicans quietly resting in the sun. They were very relaxed and let you walk right up to them. While I was photographing a beautifully groomed Pelican, a small seagull walked up and stood beside the pelican. He never left. He just kept walking around as if he enjoyed being the object of my excitement and picture taking. When I got the pictures back, I thought what a good story this would make about unusual friendships. I hope my book will help children to see the exciting possibilities of having friends from different backgrounds and bringing new experiences and awareness into their lives. Pellina and Chipper have something special to share with you.

The roadrunner who loved potato chips. Rudy is a bird that lives on the ground. He hatched from an egg under a bush next to a store. He never learned to hunt for his food. People coming to the store feed him junk food. The bush that is his home is going to be removed. Rudy has no place to go. Someone needs to help him.
