Dixie Burkhart was born, raised and continues to live in southeast Iowa with her second husband. She has children, grandchildren and an extended family. She was a state bureaucrat for seventeen years, worked in the financial services for more than twenty years, and was involved with a radio station actively for five years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Iowa Wesleyan College, a Master of Science from The American College, and a PHD from Walden University. She also hold several professional designations including Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant.
