When I was seven or eight years old, mother bought me a thin soft-cover book titled, “The Students’ Companion” by Wilfred D. Best, igniting my love affair with words. Like many students educated in the Caribbean during the 1960’s and 70’s, I spent countless hours memorizing many big words from that little book to impress my classmates or to use in essays and debates.      Then the pursuit of treasure beyond measure took me on a detour through prosaic career paths of science, sales, finance and marketing, and the written word became merely a tool I used to prepare reports, letters and memos to meet the requirements of any given academic course or job. My passion for nouns and verbs was buried in the grind to climb the corporate ladder to ultimate fulfillment.       But destiny had other plans and the insidious hands of a rare auto-immune disease would intervene to rip the rungs from that afore-mentioned ladder of materialism and guide me back to the path of creative literary expression. A spiritual awakening followed in which my passion for words would find an outlet in poetry and prose. Over a two-year period from 2007 to 2009, I completed and published eight manuscripts of poetry, fiction and non-fiction.      I write to inform. I write to inspire. I write to entertain. But most importantly, I write because I’m in love with words.
