I grew up in Alabama, keenly observing the world around me.  My family featured preachers, healers, educators, poets and people with ESP.  Music was either in the background or permeating the air.  From the beginning, I sang, I recited, I played with words and marveled at their power.  I always knew I had to uphold the family banner by living a meaningful life that would help other people.  Born to educators, I earned four degrees. Through the years, I have engaged in movements including the civil rights movement, Vietnam War protests, public school reform, New Thought, peace, environmentalism and women's rights.  My personal journey has focused on understanding the spiritual nature of human beings, starting with myself.  I have also focused on discerning the meaning and consequences of race.  I have concluded that race really has no meaning except what we assign to it.  Since life is eternal, we may experience a series of different  races over the course of many lifetimes.  

During my first career in public education, I achieved the pinnacle of serving as Superintendent of Schools. In my second career as a writer, I published a book of poems, Lifescapes. I have also published feature articles and op ed pieces. I have written and directed plays and skits.
