My first connection to the publishing world was an early one, working after school, ripping covers off of past issue magazines for the distributor to return to the publishers for credit. Following a stint in the U.S. Navy, and returning to college to study engineering, I found that the report writing side of the discipline suited me more tha the mechanics. My parallel interest was firearms, and I changed my academic major to journalism and gradually nudged my way into commercial magazines devoted to guns and hunting. That eventually evolved into writing books, fiction and nonfiction. I'm a world traveler, having set foot in more than six dozen countries on six continents. I'm a big-game hunter and have written extensively on African safari. Some African adventures have held my attention from time to time: I was a gunpoint prisoner of mercenary Cubans in Angola for quite a few hours until some unheralded diplomatic negotiations freed me and my companions; I "danced" cheek-to-cheek with an irate Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe until he gave up first; and in South Africa I chanced onto a protective mama rhino with her kid in tow, the pair blocking my only escape path. Oh yeah, I was accused of stealing a bicycle in Zanzibar, but the victim was bribed off. In Northern Africa, I rode a camel and in South Africa I rode an ostrich. Yahoo!

I am author of some 400 articles in national magazines, and ten books in print and e-book, and have contributed to various anthologies.
