I'm an author, gardener, and traveler, not necessarily in that order, who shuttles between a small town on the Olympic Peninsula and New York City. I wrote When a Grandchild Dies: What to Do, What to Say, How to Cope, to fill a gap that existed at the time in bereavement materials. The act of creating that book changed me, and I knew I had found my path.   These days I write fiction, and I published my debut novel, The Foreign Language of Friends, in 2011. FLOF was named a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and was a gold medal winner in the eLit Book Awards.   I am also proud to have edited Patchwork & Ornament: A Woman's Journey of Life, Love, and Art by Jeanette Feldman, my late mother-in-law. Patchwork was a finalist in the 2009 Writers' League of Texas manuscript contest, and was named Best Memoir in the 2010 Indie Excellence Book Awards. Patchwork was a labor of love created after Jenny's death in 2008. Thankfully, her husband was still alive to see the accolades. I plan to release my next novel, What She Knew, in spring of 2016. I'm also working on a nonfiction book using gardening as metapher and am researching another novel, tentatively called Finding Jane.
