It started many years ago when I was unhappy with my life. I wanted a knight in shining armour to ride up to me, sweep me off my feet and take me somewhere beautiful and peaceful. Knowing it would never happen, I started writing fantasy stories. The main character was always me, without the flaws, and the male character was the knight I had always daydreamed about.
What started out as a lovely way to escape an unpleasant life quickly became a need to explore new worlds. I developed a keen desire to put words to paper, and later to type words onto a screen. In a three year period, I wrote two 200,000+ manuscripts. They were total rubbish and were both scrapped by me later, but at some stage during those years, I crossed the line from being a closet writer to a writer who wanted publication. Suddenly I took writing seriously and turned to the internet to learn more.
A writer writes. It's a lonely business. And it's not as easy as some would think. However, as my word count climbed higher and higher, I was rewarded with the knowledge that my craft improved tenfold. Eventually, I started writing manuscripts I was proud of, manuscripts worthy of publication. Yet I never stop learning because the world of publishing doesn't stand still. Technology changes every year. What was not acceptable a few years ago will become common place in a few short years, I’m sure of it, and I want to be amongst the happy rush when that new era of readers suddenly cry out, "We want more books, we want different authors and we want them now!"
