Sometimes, life just seems to get busy and there's no stopping. “Life is but a drop in the bucket—birth-life-death—whatever happens in-between defines character.” —Ruben Mendoza—

Background Information

My roots to writing came from watching Black & White murder mystery movies with my father. These movies with plots, twists and turns layered-out, made them captivating. Most of the movies we watched were usually filmed in larger cities like Los Angeles (New York, and others), and so I identified with landmarks, city structures and roads, firsthand, and saw as they once were, or how the City of Los Angeles had morphed as I grew of age. Throughout the years and the several times I’ve seen these reruns, I have never grown tiresome of these old black & whites. To me, they are just as intriguing today as they were back then. The convolution and collusion to each of these movies had motivated me to write fictional novels, but my career took precedence over the writing. After high school, I enrolled in college and took criminal justice courses, eventually graduating with an Associated in Science degree from Rio Hondo College, a Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Fullerton, and a Master of Science from Chapman University. Post college, I applied and got a job with a police department in Southern California and I was sent to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy to train. Now, at the tail end of a quarter century, I serve as a police sergeant, formally as a detective sergeant as I also work twelve hour shifts and raise a family. I have been very fortunate to have a family who supports me, and such a rewarding career. Though family and career have been my primary focus, my time to write has taken a back seat, but I don’t get discouraged, or lose sight of the day when I can write every single day. For now, I write every chance I have, nevertheless. I may not always have the opportunity to sit down and write when I feel like writing—mood driven—because of other commitments, but I do stop, however, to take a lot of personal notes so I don’t lose those creative ideas bouncing about. I look forward to the day when the kids have grown and I’ve retired so that I can then direct all my time to full time writing.
