Jacqueline Pearce grew up on Vancouver Island, Canada, inspired by the nearby river, forests and ocean, as well as hints of local history. By age 12, Jacqueline was writing stories and poetry and dreaming of writing the kinds of books she loved reading. After studying a variety of subjects in university (including English Literature, Art, History, and Environmental Studies) and working as an environmental consultant and educator, Jacqueline finally began to focus on writing for young people. Jacqueline has published several novels and a collection of short stories. Themes in her writing include friendship, self actualization, multiculturalism, local history, nature (especially nature in the city, where it’s least expected), and relationships between people and animals.

Several of Jacqueline Pearce's novels have been nominated for readers' choice awards, and all have recommended by the Canadian Children's Book centre.
