Information
Diagnosed coeliac 20 years ago. 3 now grown-up children also sensitive to gluten (wheat, rye, oats and barley). Started research when my mother was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, an autoimmune inflammatory bowel complaint. After a process of diagnosis myself, for various symptoms I had researched, I changed my life dramatically by adopting the gluten free diet. I saved myself undergoing two operations - a sinus scraping op to remove polyps, and a hip replacement operation! I then knew I had to get the word out to others with similar ailments so started the Gluten Intolerance/Coeliac Support Group in Durban, South Africa in 1995.
