Information
Sean Seepersad has been teaching, researching, and working with lonely individuals over the past decade. Currently he runs the Web of Loneliness website, dedicated to providing information and support for those who feel lonely. His website is top ranked on search engines for loneliness and on resource websites such as PsychCentral.com. It also includes artwork about loneliness including over 180 loneliness poems submitted by visitors for publication on the website.
Sean has spent his graduate education learning about and researching loneliness. His Master’s research was one of the early pieces of research looking at how the Internet affects an individual’s level of loneliness. For his PhD, he developed, implemented, and evaluated a loneliness intervention program, which showed moderate success in reducing feelings of loneliness. He’s also completed cross-cultural research looking at how characteristics of lonely people vary across countries. He has several publications and professional conference presentations based on his research. In addition, he has made several media appearances to talk about loneliness and been referenced in other’s writing, such as Lonely by Emily White and a research paper by John T. Cacioppo.
Sean's interest in loneliness started with his own experiences of loneliness duing adolescence. He has been been exploring and trying to understand loneliness in his own life. Eventually, his research into loneliness lead to a more formal study of loneliness in graduate school and later lead to work in helping to provide support for other individuals who feel lonely.
