J.B. Dawson was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois she graduated from Aurora State University. she wrote while in college but was unable to break into the field of Journalism.  J. B. later became a social worker helping inner city children and did work as a social activist. In her twenties, she had a beautiful son Adero.  She left the field of social work and decided to take a job as a police officer, which allowed her to make more money.  After 16 years, she realized that as a Black female working in a white male dominated Chicago Police Department was no longer something she could do.  She said screw it and left the job. She left Chicago moving where her son and two beautiful grandsons Ahmyr, and Ahmari were living.  She began to write again and took her experience as a Black female cop put pen to paper and Black in Blue a murder mystery was born. The Chicago Police Department was motivation to move ahead and look for that next chapter in my life.
