After 20 years of hiring staffing firms and temps as a Human Resource Professional, I've learned a thing or two about the temporary employment work strategy and was inspired to share my knowledge as an insider and write The Temp Factor book series. There is a lot that occurs in front of the eyes of a client! My goal is to assist job seekers, staffing firms, temporary employees, and the companies that hire them achieve more success and become more profitable by having this real-world information. My working career actually began in the U.S. Navy, working in communications. This required a Top Secret Security Clearance, which I was very proud to possess. Confidential daily door codes, sealed envelopes stamped "For Recipient's Eyes Only", encrypted computer systems, and wearing a picture ID card were all part of my day to day routine as a Naval Radioman. I was used to a hush--hush environment. A few years later when I began my first civilian job I had my first experience with the temporary employment work arrangement. The company manager hired a temp for a week-long assignment and put me in charge of training her. When the manager said to "show her everything" he meant "everything". This really got my attention coming from my background where everything was under lock and key. I was intrigued at the concept of having a brand new person walk in the door, get them up and running as quickly as possible, and give them open access to information, files, clients and staff. Thus began my quest to fully understand this as-needed work strategy and the challenge of taking a brand new person and getting them "company-ready" to plug into a job and go!
