Writing and reading are genetic for me. My mom taught English and my dad has a Doctorate in English. My mother would take me to the library every week, strapped happily into my child seat on her bicycle. We would come home with the basket on the front filled with books to read together until our next trip. My mom would read to me every night, classics like Bunnicula, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Secret Garden, Charlotte's Web, and many more. After struggling with a learning disability during my grade school years, I discovered the joy of reading at ten and became a fixture in my school libraries from then on. I read Jane Eyre at 12 and it still remains a favorite. I started writing in middle school, really embraced it during high school, but then got distracted after that with life. Two years ago I found myself at a cross-road in life, and altered my path, taking up writing again (really because it would be denied no longer). I also refocused my career plans, went back to school and focused on the non-profit sector, where I could use and expand my skills and experience while fulfilling a need in my life I had previously ignored or not known existed. My ultimate goal is to be a philanthrapraneur, with part of the proceeds from my books and writing going toward community-bettering organizations.
