Born in Odessa, Texas, I grew up mostly in the deserts and then mountains of New Mexico. Strongly influenced by my grandmother’s adoration of history, and mom's voracious love of reading, both traits I adopted as my own early in life. Inheriting a work ethic from my father which served me especially well in the manic world of theater, where I started out writing for the stage, first in Denver and then in small New York venues while attending the New York School for Film and Television.
My earliest influences as a writer are lost in the jumbled memory of childhood, but I remember loving the idea of telling stories since I sat in the sandbox with my brother orchestrating grand adventures for us to act out. Like most modern writers I don't think I draw on just novelists, though I could point to Dickens, Gillian Bradshaw, and Tolkein as particularly inspiring and dear to my heart. The movies of Spielberg and Lucas thrilled me too, and inspired as much of my writing as anything I ever held in my hands. Comics, also, shaped my storytelling, particularly the work of Dennis O'Neal and Neil Gaiman (later his novels too). From the theatrical realm no one touches Arthur Miller in my personal taste, even if I know some of the others are supposidly his equal, they never clicked with my sensibilities as deeply.
These wild sources funneled into my brain and helped create the diversity in my writing which I'm particularly proud of. I make a conscious effort to branch out with every title and do something different, to avoid repitition and hopefully keep growing both as an author and as a person.
I currently lives in Denver with his family, writing ferociously when I can't find a semi-valid excuse to be in the middle of nowhere fishing, getting blissfully lost in a museum, or occasionally just watching old Bogart movies and eating pizza on the couch.
