I'm a writer who favors the traditional, organically-finished story over the more relaxed post-modern, believing in my heart of hearts that it is more difficult and therefore more valuable. Despite this Philistinian philosophy, I've managed to publish work in numerous magazines, and to win prizes like the Willamette Fiction Award and the Kurt Johnson Prose Award for Fiction. My collection Slow Monkeys and Other Stories was published in 2003 by Carnegie Mellon University Press, and my novel Hull Creek in 2011 by Down East Books. I'll have a new novel-in-stories called Closer All The Time out in February of 2015, thanks to Islandport Press.
