At age 59 in the year 2000 and after a lifetime of African adventure which started when I was 17 years old in 1967, as a cadet game ranger in the then Rhodesian Department of National Parks & Wildlife Management and ended with a two year stint as a Close Protection Officer in Iraq from January 2004 until April 2006, I decided to write a semi-autobiography titled Shadows in an African Twilight. This 730 page tome took me 8 years to write, and covers my life from boyhood, to my young game ranger days, then through the brutal Rhodesian Bush War during which I spent 5 years as a combat NCO in the Rhodesian Selous Scouts, after which I entered the safari field, both as a professional hunter and as a safari guide. Due to a cash flow glitch from  2004 to 2006 I went to Iraq and entered the private security field and joined Erinys Iraq, ultimately becoming their Project Lead in Basra, after 6 months in Baghdad. Since my senior school years I've always enjoyed writing, and career guidance councillors at school regularly suggested that I should look at journalism as a career (I'd been fortunate enough to win my age groups Rhodes Trustee essay competition each year that I was in high school). At that early stage of my life though, I had no desire to become a journalist and only wanted to be a game ranger in the most remote parts of Rhodesia. Over the course of maturing and experiencing life lessons however, I began to write (I'd always kept a journal) and found that my works (with photographs) were being accepted by various outdoor magazines in Zimbabwe, South Africa, the UK, & the US - plus I was getting paid! We kept our safari company, Kevin Thomas Safaris, operating until late 2013 and then closed it down. After my first book, Shadows in an African Twilight, was published by New Voices Publishing in Cape Town, South Africa, in November 2008, I wrote a second book titled Tracking the Memory which was also published by New Voices Publishing in October 2011. Throughout this period I've continued writing for magazines, and now my third book, The Hunting Game  is in E-book format on Amazon.com and it too will be published by New Voices Publishing in the near future. My first two books previously mentioned, are also available in E-book format on Amazon.com.  My latest book project is a bit more ambitious, still a work in progress, it is a pictorial/photographic book with text, but in what we call a coffee table book format (landscape). It is about Cape (African) Buffalo and I'm currently on page 93.
