Gerthie Owtram’s new book “WEED” will be released during the month of October. She is a poet introduced to New York audiences by Regio Cabico, published by the Asian Classic Institute, by New York University among others. A graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, She has worked for CBS, Newsweek and Associated Press. “I also enjoyed being a Talk Show Host at Manhattan Network, a not for profit TV station. I interviewed many interesting and well-known people and started a You-tube.com Channel and website www.gerthiesplace.com . My life’s work has, however, become my poetry as I have been writing since the early seventies. “Poet people need to be, we can’t keep locked inside the liveliness of joyful moments or weighted busted hearts. Our part is to live it in words, speak of what is real to us or die of swollen thoughts that burst, leaving open wounds, gashes, and scars that, once healed, give us character. Poetry has to be about healing even when everything is ripped apart. The perfect place to write is in the depth of a breath, a sigh of relief, the light-headedness of a happy moment, or the heavy weight of living through the tired times when relief is all you look for; then the phrases come.
