Graduated from Notre Dame High School in Belmont, California in 1968. Attended College of San Mateo and the Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore. One of my high school art teachers instructed us to write down one thing every day that we had never noticed before. I try to live and work with this in mind. It helps to improve the most important of an artist's tools.....the ability to REALLY see and not just casually observe. Because I majored in Graphic Design in College, I have only had one semester of oil painting. I believe that once you learn the fundamentals, you're on your own anyway, so just "go for it!" I would rather figure it our for myself than try to copy someone elses style anyway.

-"Wolf Watch" (Kay Winters) Chosen as one of the Best Children's books of 1998 by Bank Street College and an American Booksellers "Pick of the Lists"

-"Welcome to the Ice House" (Jane Yolen) Chosen as an Outstanding Science Trade Book for Children for 1999

-"Welcome to the Green House" (Jane Yolen) selected as One of the Best Children's Books of the Year by Bank Street College. Also a recommended title by Kansas State Reading Circle & Ohio State reading Circle.

-"Welcome to the Sea of Sand"(Jane Yolen) Chosen as One of the Best Books of 1996 by School Library Journal


I feel that my biggest achievement, though, is raising six terrific kids!
