When I'm not honing my culinary skills or working, I'm spending time with my fiancee, playing with my cats, writing and/or editing, and making jewelry.
Obviously, I have many interests, but writing is my first love. I've been writing ever since I penned my first "story" in a spiral-bound notebook at age 4. When I was in college and grad school, I wrote more out of necessity than desire, and neglected my "creative" side, but now I'm back, and I do believe my writing is better than ever.
The main influence on my writing style has been Stephen King's book, On Writing. If you haven't read it yet, you really should. It's informative and entertaining. I highly recommend it.
Anyway, back to me. I write because I enjoy writing, and other people like what I write, that's just an added bonus. I don't believe I will get rich and famous from my writing (although that has always been a secret dream of mine), but I would like to get my words out into the world in order to tantalize/teach/torture others. That's the main goal of any writer, really, to communicate with others and elicit some sort of emotional response.
