I write the kind of books that I like to read myself including techno-thrillers in the style of Michael Crichton and action/adventure stories in the style of Tom Clancy and Dan Browne. While I make my novels as technically accurate as possible, my main focus is on characters and plot so that my readers can identify with the heroes, heroines and villains and enjoy their adventures while they are within the world of my books. I also go to great lengths to make those worlds as accurate and believable as possible. For the 'Virtual Trilogy' I visited the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the Bermuda Triangle and the teeming city of Tokyo, for Fire & Ice I climbed down into the Grand Canyon, boarded a submarine and studied the US and Soviet Union psychic spying programmes. For Masterpiece I descended into the sewers of Paris, toured The Louvre and studied nuclear terrorism. I am also deeply committed to teaching young people about the sea through my children's adventures in the Captain Cockle series and my recent 'Black John the Bogus Pirate Cartoon Workbook of Marine Beasts'.
