I am the creator of the Midthorpe Mysteries and the Sanford 3rd Age Club Mysteries, both British amateur sleuth series. With the accent as much on humour as crime, they are pacy and fun to read which reflects my personal tastes. I love mysteries, and I especially love irreverent humour. A professional freelance writer and novelist, retired from industry, I have a varied work background which has brought me into contact with many different people over the years, all of which provides a rich pool of characters and situations. I produce cosy crime, harder, grittier crime, sci-fi and horror. I also produce humour on various levels, from the simple, sledgehammer, LOL kind, to subtler, more nuanced chuckles. I’ve been a writer for as long as I can remember (and that’s an awful long time) and thanks to my freelance and general life experience, I’m capable of wearing many different hats when I turn out fiction. I’m a big fan of Stephen king, James Herbert, Agatha Christie and Ann Cleeves, and British humourists, Tom Sharpe and Keith Waterhouse, all of which helps me turn out the varied kinds of work I produce. I’m best known for my Sanford 3rd Age Club Mysteries published and managed by Crooked Cat. There are 14 books in the series, involving the 3rd agers of the fictitious West Yorkshire town of Sanford, but set all over the UK and Europe. each is a stand-alone mystery where the key lies in Joe Murray’s keen sense of observation, challenging the reader to see the things Joe sees and tie them together to solve the mystery. My latest series, the Midthorpe Mysteries takes a slightly different angle. One where the accent is as much on humour as the actual mystery. The arrogant and highly successful novelist Raymond Baldock finds himself in various embarrassing situations which take the wind from his sails and compel him to redeem himself by solving the mystery, and all the while he seeks to establish a more concrete and lasting relationship with lovely Lisa, girl of his dreams. Part farce, part romcom, part mystery, there are presently two Midthorpe Mysteries, and already they are proving themselves popular with readers. With more Midthorpe Mysteries to come, my next projects are to be written under a pen name (as yet undecided) and will be straight sci-fi/horror. Away from the keyboard, I am an avid fan of Manchester United football club, and my wife and I can often be found travelling south for sun, sand and sangria in one of Spain’s many resorts. I’m married with four children, several grandchildren, and one crazy Jack Russell terrier named (Joe because he looks like a regular Joe).
